It is likely that this was originally intended to be used as a mourning brooch, but the empty cavity (viewable to the back of the brooch through a clear window) shows no evidence of holding hair or any other memento.

Cut – Old mine cuts.
Colour – F to G.
Clarity – VS2.
Carat – Each diamond is approximately 0.05 carat.
Dated – 1900
Measurements – From one end of the brooch to the other is 4.5cm and is 18.8mm at the widest point.
Metal – 15k gold. Full hallmarks from the Chester Assay, dated 1900.
