Pair of French 'Japanesque' Gilt Bronze Candlesticks, C.1890.

Description

A stunning pair of French 'Japanesque' gilt bronze candlesticks modelled as storks standing on minogame (hairy tailed turtles).

One candlestick is a brighter gilt than the other but not jarringly so. The storks are beautifully modelled with exceptional attention to detail, each holding a vine leading to the candle holder in its beak and standing upon the shell of a minogame. Both candlesticks have some small areas of residual wax in areas but generally remain in a very good condition throughout.

A very attractive pair.
