A Beautiful Georgian Solid Silver Regency Style Milk Jug/pitcher - William Hunter 1824

18th century
Description

We are delighted to offer this beautiful Georgian solid silver regency style milk jug/pitcher made by William Hunter Harris in London, 1824. (Maker's mark a little difficult to read, but likely William Hunter, period age design and makers of tea services).

The pitcher upon first glance may seem minimalist and almost modern to the untrained eye, yet upon further inspection, wonderful regency style elements are present.

The pitcher is supported by four feet which are formed in lion's feet design with flanking acorns and leaves - a lovely little touch and uniqueness opposed to the usual winged lion-foot design.

The top section is decorated with classical Georgian motifs such as the gadrooned border.

A practical and elegant size, ideal for decoration on a table for interior decor or to enjoy practically whether be it for afternoon tea milk or for holding cream for desserts.

Full English hallmarks are present on the side of the pitcher.

SIZE

Size (mm) L:14cm W:7cm H:6.5cm

Size (inches) L:5.51 W:2.75 H:2.55

Weight: 139 grams (4.47 oz t)

CONDITION

Great Condition - The jug/pitcher is in great antique condition with no damage or issues. Please read the note below for the 'assay scraped' area.

One note; the 'scraped' area on the rear side of the pitcher is not a later damage/defect but as a result of an original action by an assay master performing assay testing. In order to guarantee and confirm the silver content is of passing standard (925) the assay master would scrape (hopefully a non-disruptive) area of the silverware to test for its purity/contents. Interestingly enough, the remnants of the silver scrapes would be kept upon the retirement of the assay masters and as such some individuals would scrape as much as 'reasonably possible' which led to very large marks, more than really necessary as is the case with this item.

We aim to overemphasise and state these issues to avoid disappointment and thus please rest assured they are not significant nor affect usage of the items.

Please refer to the photographs to examine the condition in further detail.
