ANTIQUE #SA847963

Unusually Engraved Victorian Silver Vesta Case

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

A charming Victorian solid silver vesta case; the engraving is unusual, with an arts & crafts appearance. It has differing foliate design to both sides, so when viewed each side is unlike the other. Hinged on one side the lid opens and closes perfectly and there is a good fastening loop on one side. The case has clear hallmarks visible on the inside lip of the Vesta for Birmingham Assay Office, with a date mark for 1898 and the Lion Passant indicating sterling silver, along with the silversmith''s maker''s mark: Henry Matthews.

A pretty Vesta with unusual engraving in lovely antique condition.
