Description

Fine small size period 18th century satinwood secretaire bookcase in manner of George Hepplewhite. This stunning bookcase is only just over 36" wide and is of the highest quality. The base section comprises of a pair of cupboard doors with a secretaire drawer above standing on lovely shape swept bracket feet. The doors have an inlaid oval panel which matches the top section in design. The secretaire drawer is beautifully fitted with drawers and pigeon holes with a leather insert. All the drawers are satinwood lined as well with original knobs.

The top section has a large single door with oval glass which is original and has a wonderful early ripple to it. Either side of the door are fluted inlaid columns with an inverted breakfront cornice above. The bookcase has three adjustable shelves inside with nicely moulded mahogany front edges. The bookcase has various exotic wood cross bandings and ebony line inlays.

The original handles to the drawer are superb gilded brass round handles with Bilston enamel centre parts with farming themed pictures.

The base cupboard has all its original oak and mahogany sliding trays inside.

The bookcase is in very good order and is a lovely colour. As to be expected it has had a few minor old repairs over the years but nothing serious. There are old repaired cracks to the base cupboard doors.

Probably the nicest small size period satinwood bookcase currently for sale anywhere.
