Geo 111 Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase

18th century
Description

Geo 111 Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase of fine quality and colour , and of historic Coleridge provenance, with a dentil moulded cornice above astragal glazed doors and adjustable shelving , a fitted writing drawer above 3 long drawers, retaining original brasses and feet.

Circa 1780.

“ From the estate of the late Reverend Anthony Derwent Coleridge (1916-68), by descent from his grandfather, the scholar Ernest Hartley Coleridge (1846-1920), grandson of the iconic English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834).

The purchaser of this desk also acquires pp151-154 of the poet’s Notes upon The Friend , copied by Ernest Coleridge directly from Hugh Rose’s own first edition copy of The Friend. Rose was a close friend and collaborator of Samuel’s. These hand written pages were found crumpled behind the secretaire drawer .“
