Rare George III Silver Twin Snuff Box Birm' 1806

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

An exceptional and rare solid silver Snuff Box. Wonderfully tactile, the shape of the box is a curved rectangle producing a slightly concave outline, so lovely to hold in one''s hand. The exterior of the box is a nice plain polished silver, the only engraving being an initial ''B'' on the front. The lid of the box has a flush hidden hinge in the centre, enabling both sides of the lid to open, creating two separate compartments (see images). Inside the original gilded finish is revealed, along with the hallmarks for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1806, Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver and the silver maker''s mark: Joseph Willmore.

A superb item for a silver collector. A good heavy weight, and an unusual design. In lovely condition. A couple of pin head dinks are visible on the surface commensurate with age and mentioned for accuracy only.
