An unusual Victorian silver Sovereign Case in the shape of a heart . The shape and the exquisite engraving and decoration make this Sovereign case an exceptional item. The case opens with a press button to the top revealing a spring action single sovereign compartment. The underside of the lid is fully hallmarked for the Birmingham Assay office with a date mark for 1898 along with the Lion Passant indicating sterling silver. (The maker''s marks is worn and only the second letter, B, is clear; could be M.B for Mitchell Bosley & Co.) Partial marks are also visible on the rim of the sovereign compartment. This is a rare sovereign case, in tip top condition. No dents or repairs to the silver.
