Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This sterling silver glass coaster originates from the 1940 period in a mid-century modern style. The circular piece displays a polished silver colour with a reflective metallic finish, featuring a fluted inner rim, an engraved botanical floral design in the centre, and a raised outer rim. Measuring 6.5 cm in diameter, this silver item demonstrates fine vintage condition with subtle signs of age visible on the reflective surfaces and engraving. Placed upon a coffee table, it serves as a decorative protective base for glassware during dining or entertaining. Designed by Georg Jensen under number 84, the coaster incorporates a delicate lily of the valley motif within its circular central panel. The raised circular rim creates a defined boundary around the fluted section, framing the engraved botanical details cleanly against the smooth metal base. Its compact proportions allow it to sit comfortably on low tables while providing functional protection against moisture marks. Daily domestic use benefits from its durable silver construction and smooth polished underside.

FAQs

Georg Jensen mid-century silver design is recognised for its organic forms, minimalist Scandinavian aesthetics, and precision craftsmanship. During the mid-20th century, the silversmithy balanced traditional hand-hammered techniques with modern, streamlined shapes.

Vintage Danish coasters were typically crafted from solid sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring fluted borders, reeded edges, or central engraved motifs.

Authentic pieces from this specific period bear Georg Jensen makers marks, typically including the post-1945 dotted oval logo alongside silver purity marks such as 925S or country origin stamps.

A vintage silver coaster functions on a coffee table, bedside nightstand, or home bar setting, serving as a base for glassware, candles, or small personal items while providing metallic contrast.

Clean silver coasters using a soft cotton cloth and a specialised non-abrasive silver polish to clear oxidisation without scratching the surface, avoiding prolonged exposure to moisture or acidic fluids.
