A most unusual Victorian burr walnut veneered bookcase of quite low standing yet absolutely original. Rare to get a pair of plinths set into the top still with their tooled leather surfaces. These would look fantastic with a pair of Parian figures or Lustres and it is the first time we have had this combination. We feel that the bookcase was a special commission and it screams quality throughout. The borders to the shelves have ormolu backed edges. The plinth and sides have rosewood crossbanding. The galleried top gives way to carved foliate wings with a beautifully carved central cartouche. The same carvings are given to the convex sides which are topped with a scrolled corbel. All the shelves are adjustable. In superb original condition, a complete one off and unlikely to see another one even similar to it.
