Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A vinaigrette is a small container fitted with an internal perforated grille designed to hold a sponge soaked in scented liquid or vinegar. Originating in the 18th century, these items were carried to mask unpleasant public odours and prevent faintness.

High-carat gold, guilloche enamel, hand-painted porcelain or enamel miniatures, and gemstones were commonly utilised. The interiors often featured pierced gold or gilt-silver grilles.

Authentic pieces feature precise engine-turned metalwork beneath translucent enamel, period-accurate Swiss town or maker marks, and intricate hand-chased borders without modern solder marks.

These small luxury items are best displayed inside a glazed collectors cabinet, styled atop a leather-bound book, or incorporated into a wall-mounted shadow box alongside other fine period miniatures.

Wipe the surface gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove fingerprints. Avoid exposure to water, chemical polishes, or ultrasonic cleaners, which can loosen enamel or damage delicate internal hinges.
