Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating between 1689 and 1702, a William and Mary bureau bookcase is a two-part writing and storage cabinet featuring a fall-front desk section over drawers, surmounted by a cabinet or mirror door upper section. The style is characterised by Dutch-influenced marquetry, rich walnut veneers, and elegant architectural proportions.

Cabinetmakers during this period predominantly utilised walnut, specifically figure-rich burr walnut veneers laid over pine or oak carcasses. Accent details frequently incorporated mirror glass plates, feather-banding, cross-banding, and cast brass teardrop or ring handles with chased escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit late seventeenth-century joinery techniques, including hand-cut dovetail joints, thick hand-sawn veneers, pine drawer linings, and oak backboards. Look for period-correct iron locks, original brass fittings, and natural wear patterns along the lopers and drawer runners.

A bureau bookcase functions well as a focal statement piece in a contemporary study, hallway, or living space. Contrast its warm wood tones against minimalist architectural backdrops, neutral wall colours, or modern artwork to highlight its historical silhouette.

Keep the piece in a stable environment away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage, veneer lifting, or wood bleaching. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to maintain the patina.
