Exquisite Victorian Silver Card Case Birmingham 1874

Description

A gorgeous, Victorian, solid silver card case. The shape of the card case and the engraving to both the front and the back is absolutely exquisite. There is a protruding empty cartouch in the centre of of the front. The hinged lid opens and closes perfectly. When opened the inside lip of the case reveals the clear and crisp hallmarks for the Birmingham Assay office with a date mark for 1874 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver. The silver maker's mark is also clear for Robert Thornton.

A wonderful card case, lovely to hold in the hand and representing the nicest of style and appearance of the Victorian period.

 

Condition: In lovely antique collector's condition.
