Exquisite Silver Oblong Vesta Birmingham 1906

An exquisite Edwardian , solid silver Vesta case, unusually onlong in shape and very slightly concave in design. Beautifully engraved with swirling patterns to both the front and the back. The front bears a cartouch with an engraved crest in the centre of a bird with two swords (see images). Hinged on one side the lid opens and closes perfectly and shows a gilted finish to the interior. The case has clear hallmarks visible on the inside lip for the Birmingham Assay Office, with a date mark for 1906 and the Lion Passant indicating sterling silver, along with the silversmith''s maker''s mark : H V Pithy & Co. There is a good fastening loop to one side.
 
This vesta is lovely to hold in the hand, nice and solid and a good heavy gauge silver.
 
 
 
Condition: In lovely antique condition.
 
 
 
Hallmarks: Birmingham 1906 by H V Pithey & Co.
