Victorian Mahogany Open Bookcase

19th century
Description

Circa 1890, late Victorian mahogany open bookcase. Surmounted by a moulded cornice over a simple cross banded frieze, the upper open bookcase section has 4 adjustable mahogany-fronted shelves. This is flanked by fluted pilasters with acanthus carved capitals. The base has twin mahogany drawers with moulded fronts, original brass handles and mahogany liners (a sign of quality) over 2 panelled doors opening to a deep shelved interior. All supported on enclosed plinth base.
