George III Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase

Description

A stunning George III figured mahogany breakfront secretaire bookcase. The shaped cornice having applied mouldings and an arched centre above the 4 astragal glazed doors. The interior sections each having 3 adjustable mahogany faced shelves and working locks with keys. The lower section of conforming breakfront form with reeded edge and a well fitted secretaire drawer which opens to reveal 7 small and 2 long oak lined drawers with brass axe head handles, there are 4 pigeonholes, a small cupboard and a green tooled leather writing surface. Flanked by 2 banks of 2 cock beaded drawers with brass ring handles. Below are 4 panelled doors which have applied mouldings of which the centre doors open to reveal 2 open slide drawers and the end cupboards have shelved interiors. This attractive bookcase is raised on splayed feet with a shaped apron and reeded frieze. The top of the base bears a label of a previous owner “ The reverend R. Smith of Walpole, Norfolk. Condition - very good, fully restored in our own workshops. Dimensions:- Height…91.5’’/ 232.5cm. Width…87.5’’/ 222cm. Depth…20.5’’/ 52cm. Base Height…41.5’’/ 105.5cm. Top Height…50’’/ 127cm. Transports in 2 pieces. Delivery to most of U.K. £120.
