Description

Discovered within a Middlesex estate, this unusual open bookcase has been beautifully decorated with the artist's & gilders brush, in the style of the French cabinet maker Andre Charles Boulle. Originally this was not a bookcase but formed part of another cabinet, possibly housing a musical instrument, dating to Circa 1860. About 100 years ago, on seeing the quality & potential of this piece, a craftsman must have transformed it into its present use. Now professionally & sympathetically restored and further refined this attractive bookcase could enhance many different interiors.

When restoring painted & ebonised furniture 'less is more' is a good rule of thumb - imperfections to the surface are part of its character and restoration, even by an expert, can sometimes detract from its overall appeal.

The shelves are fully adjustable and deep enough (23 cm) to house the majority of books.
