Victorian Spring Push Button Silver Vesta Case By George Unite

A truly splendid and rare Vesta Case. The embossed decoration is truly glorious and intricate featuring various flowers and fruits. The craftmanship of the silversmith is most apparent. There is an empty, shield shaped, cartouch in the centre . The lid is hinged to the right side and has a sprung push button to enable opening, which is an unusual feature. it opens and closes perfectly. When open the hallmarks are revealed on the inside lip for the Birmingham Assay office with date mark for 1883 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver, the maker''s mark is for the silversmith: George Unite.
 
 
 
  
 
This is a superior Vesta Case. It is superbly made and aesthetically pleasing on the eye. It is a good heavy gauge silver and the style which oozes the Victorian era. A rare Vesta Case!
