Description

A superb Victorian silver and baleen Candle Snuffer. This Snuffer is very nicely sized and is a lovely substantial weight to hold in the hand : (it does not feel flimsy: 67 grams approx). The conical shaped snuffer bears hallmarks on one side for the London Assay Office with a date mark for 1855 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling. The silver maker's mark is also clearly visible for John Samuel Hunt. The handle is a beautifully carved baleen (whale bone) in a twisted design and is a deep rich brown colour.

A lovely item, iconic Victorian styling in wonderful antique condition.
