Superb Silver Heart Trinket Box Birmingham 1905

What can only be described as a most superb solid silver Trinket Box! This box is in the shape of a heart. The hinged lid is decorated with such exquisite engraving and is embellished with a beautiful wavy edge border. The body of the box is a lovely plain polished silver and stands on four decorative feet. Very clear hallmarks are visible to one side of the box, just beneath where the lid fits, for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1905 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver. The silver maker''s mark is also clearly visible for: Henry Matthews. Partial hallmarks can also be seen on the lid.
 
When opened, a the lovely lemony gilt interior is displayed.
 
The box is wonderfully proportioned, it is a good size (9.9 cm deep x 9.6 cm width, 4.5 cm height approx.) and as well as being beautifully ornamental is practical to house special trinkets!
