Silver Locket Style Stamp Case Birmingham 1914

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

Beautiful and very fine solid silver Stamp Case in locket form. Hinged at the bottom the case opens at the top and has a most attractive opening button combined with a loop to attach to a chain or a chatelaine. When opened two compartments are revealed. Here the hallmarks are clearly visible for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1914 and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver. The maker''s mark is also very clear for the silver maker Albert Ernest Jenkins. The engraving to the outside of the case is charming: a swirling pattern on the front with a shield shaped empty cartouch in the centre. The back is engraved with pretty ivy leaves.

A very unusual design and rare, in antique collector''s condition.
