Exceptionally Rare Japanese Silver and Cloisonne Enamel Claret Jug

Description

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this very rare & high quality Silver and Cloisonné Enamel Claret jug from the opulent Meiji period 1868-1912 , clearly aimed at the overseas export market, this outstanding Ewer is formed from solid silver and decorated with the more traditional Japanese enamel work to the base, shoulders and lid, the glass lined central section is lavishly decorated with a wide band of vibrant Cloisonné enamelled flora including Chrysanthemum, Lilies , Peonies and Wisteria, with the use of flattened Silver wire technique the artist has cleverly replicated the highly coveted Plique-a-jour ( transparent enamels ), above and below this central panel sits filigree Silver and enamel decorated bands of native flora , again finished to a very high standard, the hinged lid is surmounted with a Silver chrysanthemum finial and gold stamen, this fine work is signed to the underside in a three character incised signature translating to Toyomitzu, although glass lined we recommend this item only for display purposes only , and as a great addition to your Japanese Cloisonné or works of art collection .
