Rare Silver Double Envelope Form Stamp Case Chester C.1914
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:Woodbridge Antiques
Description
A rare solid silver Double Stamp Case, in envelope form. The case is beautifully engraved with swirls and leaves and has an empty cartouch across one of the corners on the back of the case. Hinged at the top the stamp case opens and closes perfectly well and when open reveals two stamp compartments. Hallmarks are visible just beneath the lid for the Chester Assay Office with a slightly rubbed date mark (looks like 1914). The maker's mark is also clearly visible for the silversmith: Albert Ernest Jenkins. There is a loop on one side for attachment. A rare item for a stamp case collector!   Condition: There are some surface dents to the back of the case (clearly seen in images), which we mention for accuracy.
Hallmarks: Chester c.1914 by Albert Ernest Jenkins.
