Very attractive pair of mid 19th century Ashford black and banded inlaid specimen marble pietra dura candlesticks. Decorated and inlaid with an array of specimen semi precious stones including Derby Rosso, Siena, Lapis Lazuli, Connamara, Malachite, Oakstone amongst others. Ashford in the Derbyshire Peak District was a leading producer of the finest Pietra Dura products, equal to anything being produced in Italy in the 19th century with several Ashford craftsman showcased at the Great Exhibition in 1851. English circa 1860.
