Unusual Push Button Lid Vesta Case Birmingham 1885

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

A superb solid silver Vesta Case, most unusual and rare as it has a push button to open the case; when pressed the lid flicks open perfectly! This Vesta Case is a lovely plain and simple polished silver with no engravings or embossing which adds to the aesthetics of this Case. There is a good loop at the top for attachment.

When opened clear crisp hallmarks are visible on the inside lip for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark 1885 and maker''s marks for the fine silversmith George Unite. The striking strip at the bottom of the case is unusual as it protrudes slightly rather than being usually indented!

A handsome case and very tactile, feels nice to hold in the hand!

Condition: In great antique collector''s condition. There is some very fine surface scratching commensurate with the age of the item and is mentioned for accuracy only.

Hallmarks and maker''s marks: Birmingham 1885 by George Unite.
