Silver Inkwell With Stamp Drawer Birmingham 1907

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

A most unusual and rare, Edwardian, Silver Capstan Inkwell. This inkwell has a hinged top which when lifted reveals a clear glass liner in the well. The underneath of the lid bears partial hallmarks and the side of the base of the inkwell bears full hallmarks for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1907, along with the Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver and the maker''s mark (slightly rubbed).

Just above the base of the inkwell is a small drawer (probably for stamps) with a neat pull handle attached - very rare!

The base underneath is wooden.

Lovely inkwell and rare, in great antique condition. There is a very minor ding on the lid of the inkwell, commensurate with age and use and this does not detract in any way from the item.
