Art Deco Bookcase. C1930

1920 - 1940
Description

This fine quality secretaire Bookcase is French and dates from the 1930,s. Veneered in Burr Maple and made with an exceptional quality of craftsmanship, it fits perfectly into todays' desire for lighter and more decorative pieces of furniture.

The bookcase has eight open book shelves which could also be used for displaying precious glass and other Art Deco collectables from the period. The backs of these open sections are veneered in the same attractive wood as is the whole piece. The handles, key plate and hinges are nickel plated and the original key opens both the top and lower sections.

Internally, the light tan leather writing surface is the original and has the accompanying marks of age and use. There are 2 large and 3 smaller drawers, all beautifully made from solid Maple and showing finely made dovetails. To the left hand side are three stationary sections in made in tiers.

The dimensions are;- Height 53 ins..135 cm. Width 43.5 ins..110 cm. Depth 14 ins..46 cm. The 2 outside sections are 12 ins..30 cm deep with a book shelf depth of 11.5 ins..29 cm.

This stunning bookcase has been well cared for over the years. We have simply lightly refurbished it with a good clean and then wax polished to maintain the delightful original finish and mellow patination. A fine original piece!

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
