Huge Oak Victorian Pair of Antique Library Bookcases

19th century
Description

Huge Oak Victorian Pair of Antique Library Bookcases

In the Arts and Crafts design, and very unusual being a near pair, these splendid bookcases date from around 1900. Each has a moulded cornice above two glazed doors with key with working lock and each interior comprises of four adjustable shelves, some later and all of solid oak. The lower section is low waisted which is a true sign of quality and has two cupboard doors with linen fold carvings. They each stand on a moulded plinth and would have probably been bespoke built as one is slightly deeper than the other, both are of superb quality solid oak and each splits into two sections for easy removal. The oak has aged to a warm shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.

Approximate Dimensions are:

Height:244cm / 96 inches

Width:152cm / 60 inches

Depth : 53cm / 21 inches

Ref No : 06819

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
