Victorian Mahogany Breakfront Bookcase

19th century
Description

Victorian Mahogany Breakfront Bookcase with 12 Sliding Doors.

An impressive bookcase having come from a Devon solicitor's office where it was used for housing their law books. With all glazed doors this would be as useful for displaying your collection of artefacts as it would be for books.

Comprising 6 sections each being enclosed by 2 sliding doors. The top 3 sections have 3 adjustable shelves each. The bottom left and right sections have 2 adjustable shelves each. The bottom middle section has 1 adjustable shelf (which is a replacement). All shelves are solid mahogany with polished front edge and are supported by original brass pegs.

The top and bottom halves are secured by a solid mahogany shelf and the 6 sections are contained by a moulded cornice. All is constructed in good quality solid mahogany and has acquired a deep mahogany patina.

For ease of transportation the bookcase breaks into 8 pieces, the 6 sections, shelf and cornice. The 12 doors come off their sliders when the bookcase is dismantled.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
