Superb Silver Christening Mug London 1884

A very fine and absolutely stunning solid silver, Victorian, Christening Mug. The body of the mug is heavily decorated in a charming pattern featuring flowers and foliage in a deep band around the centre of the Mug with further stunning embossing and engraving around the top and lower half. It sits on a neat circular spreading foot and has a nice loop handle to one side and a lovely deep lemon coloured gilt interior. In the centre of the mug is a circular empty cartouch. Very clear hallmarks are visible on the base for the London Assay Office with a date mark for 1884 and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver. A finest quality item associated with a fine silversmith: Holland Aldwinckle & Slater (John Aldwinckle & James Slater).
