A Fine Regency Secretaire-bookcase

19th century
Description

An excellent quality Regency period mahogany SECRETAIRE-BOOKCASE in fine original condition.

The upper bookcase section features twin doors with pretty glazing bars carved with stylised anthiemon terminals. These doors, hinged between carved corbels to the stiles, open to reveal adjustable shelves within.

The lower section has a well-fitted secretaire drawer containing nine small "bird's eye" maple-veneered small drawers arranged around a central pigeonhole whilst "flame" mahogany veneered doors below open to reveal shelves within. It stands on a plinth base and measures 43ins wide; 7ft 6ins tall and 21ins deep. An impressive Library or Drawing Room cabinet.
