William IV Silver Cream Jug, London 1836

Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

A superb, William IV, solid silver cream jug, beautifully designed in circular squat helmet form and sitting on a neat circular base. The polished silver has no embossing or engraving and features three protruding bands around the centre, and a simple rolled edge around the rim, which all adds to the wonderful aesthetics of this piece. Lovely proportions and feels nice in the hand when picked up by the loop handle on one side. Hallmarks for the London Assay office are visible to the base the jug as well as the Lion Passant indicating sterling silver and a date mark for 1836. The maker''s marks for Joseph Angel I and John Angel I are also clear.
