Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century French Second Empire bonheur du jour writing desk is constructed from dark brown walnut, ebonised wood, ormolu, porcelain, and mirror glass. The upper section includes a brass gallery, a central mirror flanked by decorated porcelain plaques, and two cupboards with gilded mounts above three small drawers. Below the writing surface, the structure incorporates two open lower shelves with a mirrored back panel. Turned wooden feet support the entire piece, which measures 145 cm high, 123 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a study or a drawing room, the desk provides a functional writing station alongside multiple levels of display shelving.

Originating in 18th-century France, a Bonheur du Jour is a compact style of ladies writing desk characterised by a flat table surface integrated with a small upper cabinet, shelves, or drawers.

Craftsmen commonly used fine cabinet woods such as walnut, rosewood, and ebonised timber, augmented by cast gilt-bronze mounts and decorative hand-painted porcelain plaques.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut joinery, natural age patination to the timber, hand-chased bronze fittings, and hand-painted details on porcelain inserts rather than modern transfer patterns.

Position the item in a hallway, dressing room, or living room alcove to function as a focal accent piece alongside contemporary or neutral decor.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply microcrystalline wax to timber components, keeping water and chemical polish away from porcelain plaques and gilt metal mounts.
