Fine Silver Oval Vesta Case Chester 1900 William Neale

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

An exquisite Victorian, solid silver Vesta case. An unusual design with a oval shaped lid and a slight curve on the striking end. The craftmanship of the silversmith is evident: It is beautifully engraved with lovely swirling patterns to both the front and back, with a nice circular vacant cartouch in the centre. Hinged on one side the lid opens and closes perfectly and there is a good fastening loop on the side. When the lid is opened clear hallmarks are visible on the inside lip for the Chester Assay Office, with a date mark for 1900 and the Lion Passant indicating sterling silver, along with the silversmith''s maker''s mark for William Neale.
