Very fine, early Victorian, solid silver sugar tongs. These tongs are of particular interest to collectors as they were made by Elizabeth Eaton, the Lady Silversmith (an important pioneer in the silversmith history). Clear maker''s marks are visible on the inside of the tongs ''EE'', as well as clear hallmarks for The London Assay Office and a date mark of 1845, (1845 was the year Elizabeth Eaton was widowed from her husband, the renowned silversmith: William Eaton) along with the Lion Passant indicating sterling silver.
