Silver Cigarette Case with Original Box Birmingham 1923

1920 - 1940
Description

A very fine solid silver cigarette case. The case is a wonderful slightly concave shape, which makes it very tactile in the hand! It has a push button for opening that works perfectly. The outside of the case is very nicely engraved with a striking striped design, both front and back (classy and simple). There is a circular empty cartouche in the centre. When opened the case has a lovely lemony gilt finish. The two original navy blue elasticated strips for holding the cigarettes in place are still in tact. Clear hallmarks and maker's marks are visible on the inside for The Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1923. The maker's marks clearly visible are for Alexander Clark Company Ltd.

Remarkably, the original box for holding the cigarette case comes with the case. The box is made from thick brown card and has the silversmith's label on the front with the copy: ' The Alexander Clark Company Ltd. Manufacturing Goldsmiths & Silversmiths, Dressing Case Makers, 125 & 126 Fenchurch Street, London EC. Contractors to the Admiralty, War Office and Colonial Governments. Along with Royal Warrants 'By Royal Command to the Court of Japan' and 'To His Majesty the King of Siam'.

Condition: The cigarette case is in great antique condition, as is the box.

Hallmarks and maker's marks: Birmingham 1923, made by: Alexander Clark Company Limited.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
