Persian Senneh rugs originate from the city of Sanandaj (formerly Senneh) in western Iran. Woven primarily by Kurdish artisans, these textiles became world-renowned during the nineteenth century for their fine knot density, delicate designs, and distinct geometric motifs.

These rugs are hand-knotted using high-grade wool pile spun onto cotton or wool warp threads. Craftsmen utilize the asymmetrical Senneh knot to achieve low, tightly woven piles that allow for precise detailing and durable structural integrity.

Authentic pieces exhibit extremely flat back weaves, a thin and stiff handle, and distinctive stepped diamond central medallions. They frequently feature intricate Herati (fish) patterns or repeating Boteh designs in classic colour palettes of dark blue, cream, and madder red.
