Superb Antique Secretaire Bookcase

19th century
Description

A superb William IV circa 1835 figured mahogany secretaire bookcase. The outswept cornice above a pair of glazed and cross banded doors with unusual astragal glazing bars. The interior with 2 adjustable mahogany faced shelves which can accommodate books up to 12''/30cm deep. The base section having a large cross banded and recessed secretaire drawer with gadrooned pulls which opens to a well fitted satinwood interior, consisting of 1 long and 6 short drawers with various pigeon holes and a tooled green leather writing surface. The lower doors with recessed cross banded panels within cross banded frames which open to reveal a shelf and 2 drawers, the right hand one being a lead lined cellarette and both retaining their original ornate brass swan neck handles. The door stiles having attractive flame mahogany turned and tapering columns and supported on well carved lion's paw feet. In very good condition with working locks and keys. Transports in 3 pieces. Two man delivery to most of U.K. mainland £85.
