Mid Victorian Burr Walnut Open Bookcase

19th century
Description

Circa 1860, exhibition quality mid Victorian burr walnut open bookcase of generous depth. The top has a carved gadrooned fore edge with foliate carving on the sides, above ogee mouldings and a small apron. Left and right are pilasters which are framed and have a slight recess in the centre. There are two solid adjustable shelves with moulded fore edges. Below the bottom shelf is an ogee moulding and the whole piece stands on an enclosed plinth. The top is slightly deeper than the body allowing it to clear skirting boards or dado rails.

Size 99cm high x 93cm wide x 42.5cm deep.
