Wylie & Lochhead Oak Cabinet Bookcase

Description

Circa 1890, late Victorian oak Gothic style cabinet bookcase by Wylie & Lochhead of Glasgow (well marked at the back). There is a simple cornice over two glazed rectangular doors with canted corners at the top, enclosing four adjustable shelves which have a shaped, moulded and polished front. Beneath the top is a small flat section with a chamfered edge and return ogee moulding. There are two small drawers with stylish cast brass Gothic style handles and carved acanthus leaves between the drawers. Beneath this are two further panelled cupboard doors with quarter sawn oak tongue and groove boards which run at an angle, framed with three reeded pilasters. All stands on a stylish stepped enclosed plinth. Top quality Scottish cabinet making.
