Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1860s.
This breathtaking piece has most probably been bespoke built due to its unusual small proportions but does not detract in any way from the amount of storage space it holds and would look spectacular in most homes. This amazing antique has been constructed from quality figured rosewood and has a moulded cornice above four glazed doors with arched mouldings, beautifully turned handles and each interior has two adjustable shelves. The lower section is of waist height showing a true sign of quality and has a beautifully figured top with moulded edges above four cupboard doors with central fielded panels that are beautifully figured with the original turned handles and moulded divides. The two left hand interiors have three sliding mahogany lined trays, the third interior comprises of two adjustable shelves and finally the right hand interior has a deep cellarette drawer and mahogany lined pull out drawer above. This spectacular bookcase sits on a moulded plinth and splits into two sections for easy removal. The rosewood has aged to a rich shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
