Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1870s.
These incredible bookcases have a moulded cornice above two glazed doors with arched mouldings and keys with working locks. Each interior has three adjustable shelves. The lower sections have a rectangular top with rounded corners and half round moulded edge, above a frieze drawer with moulded edge and the original turned handles and they even retain the original blue lining paper. The cupboard doors have magnificent mahogany flamed panels and arched mouldings. Each interior has one removable shelf and stand on a plain plinth and benefit from the original backboards, they split into two sections for easy removal. It would be highly unlikely to acquire such a unique pair of bookcases so these are a real asset. As these bookcases have been Bespoke built so the widths do vary slightly with each one. The mahogany has aged to a rich shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
