Bureau Bookcase George III Mahogany Slim Proportions C1790

19th century
Description

Here we have a wonderful George III Mahogany bureau bookcase c1790. This piece has super colour and patina. The photographs do not quite show the richness in colour of the Mahogany and the bureau bookcase has a much more even and less orange colour than the photos suggest. The top has a stunning overslung pediment with shaped mouldings and dog tooth decoration. Below there is a bookcase top with adjustable shelves and a pair of perfectly executed astragal glazed doors with original glass. There is a working lock and key to the doors. The bureau section is equally fine in quality, colour and patina. The fall front with working lock and key has wonderful grain and drops to reveal a fitted and leathered interior. The Trompe l'oeil fronted internal drawers appear to be twos but are made as one. There is a place for inkwells and staionary in the end drawer. The drawers are all Oak lined and constructed with dovetail joints as are the main drawers. The main drawers retain their original and stunning brass swan neck handles. The bureau is finished with original ogee bracket feet with a decorative moulding to the top. A fine period bureau bookcase of slim proportions in fantastic retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 36 inches wide 86 high and 21 deep.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
