Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The level of craftsmanship used in its construction is self evident and this spectacular bookcase would look superb in a study to store and display all those collectables or a large selection of books. The bookcase has a moulded cornice above three glazed doors with keys with working locks. Each interior has three adjustable shelves finished with beautiful leather trim. The lower section is low waist height showing the pure class of this wonderful bookcase craftsmanship. It has a rectangular moulded top above three beautifully figured doors with keys, working locks and quality carved corbels. Each interior has one removable shelf and the piece stands on a plain plinth and splits into two sections for easy removal. The mahogany has aged to a rich medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
