Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1870s.
It has a moulded cornice above two glazed doors with arched moulded edges. The doors retain their key with working lock and once open reveal an interior containing three adjustable shelves. The lower section has a beautifully figured plum pudding mahogany top with half round moulded edge above a moulded frieze drawer and two cupboard doors. The doors have arched mouldings, consistent in style with those at the top, and again retain their key and working lock. They are flanked by beautifully carved corbels. The interior contains a single fixed shelf while the piece as a whole stands on a moulded plinth and splits into two sections for ease of removal. The mahogany has aged to a rich medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition having been beautifully restored, cleaned and waxed finished using traditional methods.
