Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1890s.
Dating from around 1890 this antique open bookcase is constructed from walnut. It has a rectangular moulded beautifully figured top above two adjustable shelves. The shelves are flanked by reeded edges and shaped brackets can be found at its base.
The piece still retains its original back boards where two small knot holes can be found, these however would not be seen when the shelves are fully loaded with books. The walnut is a rich medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
