Quality Walnut Antique Victorian Library Bookcase by Maple & Co.

1900 - 1920
Description

Quality Walnut Antique Victorian Library Bookcase by Maple & Co.

This magnificent antique library bookcase dates from the late Victorian period, circa 1900, and has been constructed from the finest quality walnut timbers by a true craftsman. It retains the renowned makers stamp, Maple & Co., who are famous worldwide for their quality pieces, especially in the Arts and Crafts design. This particular bookcase has a moulded cornice above three glazed doors with the original, and unusual, bevelled glass, original handles and keys with working locks. The doors hang from the finest quality brass hinges, a key design feature on the bookcase. The interiors of the two outer displays contain four adjustable shelves while the central interior contains just three. The lower section has a rectangular moulded top above three mahogany lined drawers again with moulded edges and original brass handles. Below these can be found three cupboard doors with magnificent central raised fielded and carved panels. The skill required to achieve the detailing displayed is truly mind blowing and very rarely found in modern day equivalents. The doors again hang from the original quality brass hinges and have the original brass handles. The interior of each cupboard contains a single removable shelf. The bookcase has reeded sides, stands on turned feet and can be split into two sections to aid removal. This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a magnificent quality bookcase made by the renowned craftsman at Maple & Co. and heavily influenced by the Arts & Crafts movement of the late Victorian and early Edwardian period. The walnut is a rich warm medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
