Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1920s.
This elegant antique mahogany bureau bookcase dates from around 1920. It has a moulded cornice above a blind fretwork carved frieze.
The moulded fall front is made from beautifully figured flamed mahogany and has a key with working lock. The interior has the original brown tooled leather writing insert, a central cupboard door and several small drawers and pigeon holes. The lower section has a two over three graduating drawer configuration, all having the original brass swan neck handles. There is a decorative lower edge above delightfully scrolled carved cabriole legs with ball and claw feet and shell motif. The whole piece is a warm medium shade of mahogany with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
