Natural amethyst cabochon: smooth domed stone showing original internal crystal veiling.
Hand-shaped wire scrollwork: traditional Taxco studio filigree construction.
Integrated hook behind the bow: original two-part detachable construction.

This 1940 Mexican silver pendant from Taxco comprises a top bow section and an articulated drop element. Fashioned from 980 silver, the piece displays intricate filigree scrollwork and a polished central round purple amethyst cabochon. Visible details include a loop suspension mechanism, a secure pin hardware on the reverse of the bow, and openwork wire loops. The overall measurements are 8 cm by 4 cm, with the amethyst measuring 2 cm in diameter, and the weight is 18.0 g. Stamps indicate the Taxco origin and 980 silver fineness. Buyers can wear this versatile vintage item either as a complete pendant brooch ensemble or separate the detachable bow to wear independently on garments or chains. The articulated construction allows gentle movement when worn. This wearable textile accessory suits modern bohemian jewellery collections and historic silver displays.

Taxco, Mexico, became an established centre for silversmithing in the twentieth century, renowned for traditional Mexican metalworking techniques that incorporate delicate wirework filigree.

These pendants are constructed from 980 grade silver, which features a higher silver purity than standard sterling silver, alongside natural polished gemstones such as cabochon amethysts.

Authentic vintage pieces from Taxco typically feature hallmark stamps on the reverse metal surface, indicating purity numbers like 980 or origin marks indicating Mexican manufacture.

A filigree drop pendant can be suspended from a silver chain over a dark turtleneck sweater or worn pinned to a tailored blazer coat lapel.

Clean high-purity silver using a soft polishing cloth designed for precious metals, avoiding abrasive liquid chemicals that might damage the surface or alter the gemstone.
