A match striker is a tabletop accessory introduced in the late 19th century, designed to hold friction matches while offering an unglazed or textured exterior surface to ignite them.

Late Victorian examples frequently combined textured stoneware, ceramic, or glass bodies with hallmarked sterling silver mounts fitted around the rim.

Authentic British pieces feature silver mounts stamped with official assay office hallmarks, including the makers mark, purity mark, city mark, and date letter.

Place the object on an office desk, mantelpiece, or bookshelf tray alongside candles to serve as a functional decorative focus.

Clean the silver mount gently with a soft cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding contact with the textured ceramic body to prevent staining.
